Unlicensed Assistive Personnel/Patient Care Technician

TUITION: $1950 (may vary by specialized training criteria)

The student will gain the knowledge and skills that will qualify the student to perform basic patient care and assist in direct patient care in a hospital setting.  This program is designed to meet the care standards of the hospital where the student is training. The student will participate in a minimum of 75 hours of classroom and a minimum of 100 clinical on-the job training hours. Students learn basic nursing skills through classroom discussions, demonstrations and simulations, and presentations by healthcare professionals.  Upon successful completion of the program the student will receive a certificate of completion from the hospital where the student participated in training and MEDS.

  • Bathing and grooming
  • Feeding and nutrition
  • Observation and documentation

To be eligible student must:

  • Student must be at least 18 years of age
  • Student must meet the training hospital’s criteria for employment
  • Student must provide a copy of 2 negative TB PPD skin tests or 1 negative TB blood test or 1 negative chest x-ray that is less than 6 months old on the first day of class
  • Background checks must be free of ALL felony crimes against persons
  • Student must be registered with the Family Care Safety Registry (FCSR) https://health.mo.gov/safety/fcsr/.
  • Must achieve a minimum score of 75% on basic reading test given on the first day of class.
  • Student must have reliable transportation and dependable childcare. 

Additional supplies:

  • 2 inch notebook binder
  • Scrub uniform (color/style of your choice)
  • Manual blood pressure cuff
  • Stethoscope

MEDS is a state of Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) approved training site for certification programs.
